At Baselworld 2013, TAG Heuer launched the Monaco HEUER Calibre 12 Chronograph Automobile Club de Monaco Black Edition. The novelty is devoted to the brand’s continuous partnership with the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM). It is based on an older 1970s Black Monaco (pictured below), which is said to be one of the rarest Heuer watches primarily because is not 100% clear if it ever officially existed.
The square-shaped case of the new TAG Heuer Monaco watch measures 39mm in diameter and is rendered in steel. Its surface is PVD -coated to make the watch acquire its bold black look. The polished and fine brushed steel pushers create a distinctive contrast with the black surface of the case.
Inside, is TAG Heuer’s Calibre 12, which is an ETA 2892 with a Dubois Depraz chrono module. With the balance frequency of 28, 800 vibrations per hour, the 59-ruby mechanism gives an advantage of a 40-hour power-reserve. The smoked sapphire case-back reveals the ACM logo.
The dial is graced with luminescent hand-applied hands and indexes to guarantee perfect visibility under any light conditions. The square small seconds and chronograph minutes sub-dials are positioned at 3 and 9 o’clock respectively. The small date window is found at 6 o’clock.The hour and minute hands are diamond cut as well, with white luminescent paint. The central chronograph second hand is rhodium plated with an orange tip for easy legibility when the chronograph is running. Both the TAG Heuer logo and “Monaco” are printed on the dial at 12 o’clock.
The case features a mixture of brushed and polished finishes. The case back has a smoked sapphire crystal, which is laser embossed with the “ACM” logo. The pushers and crown are in stainless steel, with both brushed and polished surfaces.
