At Baselworld 2016, Breitling launched the new Breitling Avenger Hurricane watch-featuring a case made of a new, proprietary alloy called Breitlight. This is a deceptively cool watch even though it clearly isn't for everyone. The new Breitlight material is six times lighter than steel, and even three times lighter than Titanium. But besides being considerably lighter on the wrist, thanks to the new material the Breitling Avenger Hurricane is also anti-magnetic, less likely to irritate sensitive skin. Breitling Avenger Hurricane Watch At Baselworld 2016 Carbon composites of various types have become increasingly popular in luxury sport watches. Carbon fiber is perhaps the most well-known of these materials, but it isn't the only way carbon is treated in luxury watches. Unlike more established watch materials such as metal, we are still new to understanding how to compare various carbon polymer materials with one another. The Breitling Avenger Hurricane is an unmistakably masculine watch, in the brand’s military-aviation-inspired tradition — a hulking, 50-mm-diameter case; an all-black “stealth” color scheme with yellow accents; big, stencil-type hour numerals; a rugged strap layering a tough textile fiber exterior over a yellow rubber core. The Breitlight material is 3.3 times lighter than titanium and 5.8 times lighter than steel, but significantly harder. Among its other listed attributes are exceptional resistance to scratches, traction, and corrosion; thermal stability; and antimagnetic and non-allergenic properties, in addition to being warmer to the touch than other metals and, aesthetically, having a somewhat mottled surface texture. There’s no denying that Breitling is using its new Breitlight material as a selling point for the Avenger Hurricane, since other timepieces in its collection with similar functionality, and metal housings, actually sell for less money. The case of Breitling Avenger Hurricane Watch is water-resistant to 100 meters (330 feet) and has a unidirectional rotating bezel with rider tabs. The crown is screw-locked; both it and the chronograph push-pieces have a grooved checkerboard pattern for a non-slip grip, even for a wearer (such as a pilot, to whom this watch is obviously aimed) who is wearing gloves. The Avenger Hurricane features a 24-hour military-type display analog display to stand out on the second glance. Powered by Manufacture Breitling Caliber B12, a selfwinding chronograph and chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute). The price of the Breitling Avenger Hurricane is around $9,000.
